Home > WW2 Award WW2 Award For a company to win the Army-Navy Production Award during WWII was a much heralded event with considerable pomp and circumstance, especially since winners had to meet eleven stringent requirements. Although awarded on a plant, rather than a company, basis, the entire organization still basked in the glow of name recognition. On April 8, 1943 the Columbus plant was awarded the Army-Navy "E" award for excellence in manufacturing. The plant newsletter stated in part; "April 8, 1943 will long be remembered by everyone at the Columbus plant. With flags fluttering, the American Legion Band playing, a snappy Color Guard strutting and high Army and Navy officials everywhere, all employees gathered in Building 18 to receive the rewards of "Work Well Done"". Nationwide, only three percent
of war industries received this award.
